ROCK n ROLL FRIDAYS meme: THE BEATLES !!!

Hi I'm DJ KathyA! Welcome to Rock 'n Roll Fridays. We are like other memes in that we will ask you thirteen questions each and every Friday. But our little "twist" is that each week we will pick a singer, band, era or category and pick thirteen of their songs. Each of our questions will be based on the lyrics. Got it? Great! Let's begin this week's meme!

This is a special "double" meme in honor of being the last meme of the year.
Today we picked The Beatles.

1. HARD DAYS NIGHT : “You know I work all day, to get you money, to buy you things, and it’s worth it just to hear you say, you’re gonna give me everything…”
Have you ever supported another person?
Yes, when I was married, my husband was an off-season, out of work landscaper. He eventually got a job as a postman, but it was a long 6 months supporting him on my retail job wages.

2. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE: “Nothing you can make that can’t be made. No one you can save that can’t be saved. Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time, it’s easy. All you need is love…”
What 3 things do you need besides love?
Health, A Job, Humor.

3. BACK IN THE USSR: “Been away so long I hardly knew the place, gee it’s great to be back home…”
What is the most unusual place you have visited?
In Dover, England, I toured a secret underground network of tunnels carved into the white clifts that was used as a hospital and secret communication headquarters during WWII. It also housed a museum dedicated to the creator of JAMES BOND, Ian Fleming, with all kinds of prop devices used in the films. Facsinating. It is supposed to be haunted as well, but I didn't notice anything unusual while I was visiting.

4. DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET?: “Listen, doo da doo, do you want to hear a secret? Do you promise not to tell?...”
What was the last secret you heard?
It was a co-worker talking about another co-worker having a fight with their S/O. I had inquired as to why they were so grumpy that morning.

5. DRIVE MY CAR: “Baby you can drive my car. Yes I’m gonna be a star. Baby you can drive my car and maybe I’ll love you…”
When was the last time you drove someone else’s car?
I drove Bud's car to and from his sister's Holiday Party. I was the DD.
I am always the DD...

6. EIGHT DAYS A WEEK: “I ain’t got nothing but love, babe. Eight days a week”…
What was the longest week of YOUR life?
The last week before I got married. I was scheduled for an outdoor wedding and the weather in New England is so horrifically ever-changing, I didn't know if it was going to rain or not. It did, but cleared for the wedding and photos, then started up after we got to the reception.

7. GET BACK: “Jojo was a man who thought he was a loner, but he knew it couldn’t last. Jojo left his home in Tucson Arizona, for some California grass. Get back! Get Back! Get back to where you once belonged…”
Where do YOU belong?
With Bud. : )

8. GOOD MORNING GOOD MORNING: “Everyone you see is half asleep, and you’re on your own you’re in the street…”
What is your morning routine?
Early up, coffee, check e-mails, FB, blog comments. Shower, makeup, dress. It'll be a few more hours until Bud rises.

9. HELLO GOODBYE: “I don’t know why you say goodbye I say hello, hello, hello…”
Who was the last person you said goodbye to that you look forward to saying Hello to again?
The Airedale dogs at The 1896 House.

10. YESTERDAY: “Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away, now it looks as though they’re here to stay, oh I believe in yesterday…”
What was the best event of yesterday (the day before today)?
Something to do with post-Grand Marnier drinking...tied with a call-back from a future employer.

11. WITHIN YOU WITHOUT YOU: “We were talking about the space between us all and the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion…”
Spiritually, do you believe in afterlife, reincarnation or nothing at all?
I believe in reincarnation. I'm very Pagan-New Age-y that way.

12. WHEN I’M 64: When I get older losing my hair, many years from now…will you still be sending me a valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine?...”
What was your favorite age to be?
Under 30 and over 20. Just wish I was smarter back then... sigh.

 13. WE CAN WORK IT OUT: “Try to see it my way, do I have to keep on talking till I can’t go on? While you see it your way, run the risk of knowing that our love will soon be gone, we can work it out…”
What is the most drastic thing you ever did to try to save a relationship/friendship?
More futile than drastic, I have sent holiday cards to an ex-friend for over 18 years with no response.

14. THE NIGHT BEFORE: “We said our goodbyes the night before, Love was in your eyes the night before, Now today I find, you have changed your mind…treat me like you did the night before…”
Anything change drastically just overnight for you?
Jobs and Houses changed, and boyrfriends...probably post stomach-stapling surgery, I felt like a new person. Eventually, I got my life back.

15. FOOL ON THE HILL: “But nobody wants to know him, they can see that he’s just a fool. And he never gives an answer but the fool on the hill sees the sun going down and the eyes in his head see the world going round…”
Were you ever teased or bullied in the past?
Yes, for severe acne (nicknamed"Kathy Ackey") and bullied on the bus by the neighbor kids gang for being the weird girl who played trumpet in the band at school. I hate school and my neighborhood both because of this awkward time.

16. SHE’S A WOMAN: “My love don’t give me presents, I know that she’s o peasant. Only ever have to give me, love forever and forever, my love don’t give me presents…”
What was the last gift your significant lover gave to you?
A Remote Car Starter from Bud. xxo

 17. SEXY SADIE: “She came along to turn on everyone, sexy Sadie the greatest of them all, Sexy Sadie how did you know, the world was waiting just for you…”
What is sexy about your significant other?
Everything! (except the sweats & T shirts).

18. REVOLUTION: “You say you want a revolution, well you know, we’d all want to change the world…”
What would you change about the USA right now if you could (besides war)?
Socialize health insurance/services and medicine. People are sick, dying or letting major health issues go unchecked because they cannot afford insurance. I know this firsthand. : (

19. PENNY LANE: “Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes, there beneath the blue suburban skies…"
Tell us about your favorite street. It doesn’t have to be the one you live on now…
I love country roads in the USA, but for a city street, it has to be LONDON, ENGLAND hands down...perhaps a High Street, King's Road or Oxford Street...so many bring back fond memories. Any that Bus 7 traveled along after work.

20. PAPERBACK WRITER: “It’s a thousand pages give or take a few, I’ll be writing more in a week or two. I can make it longer if you like the style, I can change it round and I want to be a paperback writer….”
What would your book be about if someone advanced you money to write one?
A fictional character's life, based on my daydreams.

 21. NOWHERE MAN: “He’s a real nowhere man, sitting in his nowhere land, making all his nowhere plans for nobody..”
Who do you feel is clue-less?
People who feel war brings peace.

22. NORWEGIAN WOOD: “She showed me her room, isn’t it good Norwegian wood?”
What piece of artwork or furniture are you most proud of?
A poster I ripped off a pub wall in London while I was trashed on hard cider. It depicts a cartoon couple drinking Pernod and has the price (in pence) of the mixed drink. I've had it since 1987.

23. MICHELLE: “I love you I love you I love you, that’s all I want to say, until I find a way, I will say the only words I know that you’ll understand…"

Have you ever dated a non-US born person? (If you are from another country , have you dated anyone outside your borders?)
Yes, English, Canadian, Austrailian, New Zealander, Scottish, Israeli, Turkish, Irish and a Welch man.

 24. MAXWELL’S SILVER HAMMER: “Bang Bang Maxwells’ silver hammer came down on her head, bang bang Maxwell’s silver hammer made sure that she was dead…”
How would you like to die if given a choice?
Quickly, painlessly, and a LONG time from now.... Yikes!

 25. MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR: “Roll up for the mystery tour. The magical mystery tour is waiting to take you away, waiting to take you away take you today…”
What was the last tour you went on?
I toured the Susan B Anthony House in Rochester, NY last year.

 26. LADY MADONNA: “Lady Madonna baby at your breast, wonders how you manage to beat the rest…”
How do you feel about public breast feeding?
Uugh. Nothing like shelling out a bill for a 5 star meal and glancing over at some "natural" woman whipping out her naked breast to feed her whiney baby. Take it to the ladies room. It's natural you say? So is taking a dump, but THAT is not done in a public restaurant. I am totally against public breast feeding.

ROCK n ROLL FRIDAYS meme: HOLIDAY SONGS!

Hi I'm DJ KathyA! Welcome to Rock 'n Roll Fridays.
Today we picked Holiday Rock 'n Roll Christmas Songs.

1. BAND AID: Do They Know It’s Christmas
What is your favorite charity?
I love several, usually donate to local food shelters or donate my clothes to those bins for local charities, but Goodwill is my favorite big charity, because they sponsor a free online teaching course for computer programs, they hire seemingly un-employable folks to work in their stores, and they help the poor all over the world.

2. BRENDA LEE: Rockin Around the Christmas Tree
What do you consider “rockin” about Chrismas?
The holiday season is different than the usual mundane every-day winter life. You are forced into traditions such as home decoration, gift making or giving, card mailing and parties. Not so shabby!

3. JOHN LENNON-YOKO ONO: Happy Christmas/ War Is Over
What major world event/change would you like to see happen on Christmas Day?
PEACE. War IS over if you want it...

 4. PAUL McCARTNEY: Wonderful Christmastime
What is your favorite Christmas memory?
That moment of anticipation as a young child, waiting at the top of the stairs for my parents to get up and light the tree. I'd walk cautiously down the steps, get blinded by my father's flash bulb on the camera, then see the presents. Good times.

 5. BEACH BOYS: Little Saint Nick
Have you been to California, Florida or some other warm weather place for the holidays?
I have lived in Florida and also lived in California. Celebrating a cold weather holiday in the tropical environment felt weird and unatural to me, although my parents took me to Disney World one Christmas year and that was fun.

 6. STEVIE WONDER: Someday At Christmas
What would like for a future Christmas for yourself and your family?
Everyone healthy and employed and no drama.

 7. WEIRD AL: Christmas at Ground Zero
Have you prepared your family home for a catastrophic emergency?
Nope. My arse will be a fast go.

8. THE PRETENDERS: 2000 Miles
What is the furthest away you have traveled for Christmas or other holiday?
London, England. Loved it there for the holidays. Very old school.

9. ELVIS PRESLEY: Blue Christmas
What is the saddest Christmas memory you have?
A tie between the first one without my mother and the year John Lennon died.

10. THE WAITRESSES: Christmas Rapping
Have you ever hooked up on Christmas Eve?
No, but I have had relationships where it was a romantic evening...

11. ELTON JOHN: Step Into Christmas
What is your favorite snow-related activity?
I have fond memories of sledding down the hill at Washington Park in Groton, and also ice skating at night. It is really cool to do that. (Trusting the pond is frozen!).

 12. WHAM: Last Christmas
Do you have any lovers or friends you have lost touch with and want to reconnect with?
Some friends from the past. I may find them on Facebook one day, but they are not on yet.

 13. BOBBY HELMS: Jingle Bell Rock (I love this song! One of the few I can listen to at other times of the year )
Have you ever been on a sleigh ride?
Yes, took a sleigh ride last year up in Williamstown, MA on a scenic country hillside.

WEDNESDAY WICKEDNESS: "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE"

Wednesday Wickedness picked quotes from the movie It's a Wonderful Life in honor of the holiday season.

1. George Bailey: (The staff celebrates closing the building and loan company with only two dollars remaining, to stay in business) Get a tray for these two great big important simoleans here.
Uncle Billy: We'll save 'em for seed.
George Bailey: A toast! A toast! A toast to Mama Dollar and to Papa Dollar, and if you want to keep this old Building and Loan in business, you better have a family real quick.
Cousin Tilly: I wish they were rabbits.
Have you ever had a pet rabbit? What's the most unusual pet that you've had?
Never had a rabbit. I love dogs so much and have never owned one. I had a parakeet 2 separate time periods and 2 cockatiels (Samson & Delilah) that my ex-husband got custody of.

2. George Bailey: Mary Hatch, why in the world did you ever marry a guy like me?
Mary: To keep from being an old maid!
George Bailey: You could have married Sam Wainright, or anybody else in town...
Mary: I didn't want to marry anybody else in town. I want my baby to look like you.
George Bailey: You didn't even have a honeymoon. I promised you...
George Bailey: Your what?
Mary: My baby!
George Bailey: [stuttering] Your, your, your, ba- Mary, you on the nest?
Mary: George Bailey Lassos Stork!
George Bailey: [still stuttering] Lassos a stork?
George Bailey: What're'ya... You mean you're... What is it, a boy or a girl?
Mary: [nods enthusiasticly] Mmmm-hmmm!
Tell us about you finding out that you were pregnant, or of someone close to you.
I was horrified both times. I believe I uttered an obscene word. I hated being pregnant.

3. George Bailey: [yelling at Uncle Billy] Where's that money, you silly stupid old fool? Where's that money? Do you realize what this means? It means bankruptcy and scandal and prison. That's what it means. One of us is going to jail - well, it's not gonna be me.
Have you ever gone through a tough time financially?
Let me count the ways...

4. [George has discovered his brother Harry's tombstone]
Clarence: [explaining] Your brother, Harry Bailey, broke through the ice and was drowned at the age of nine.
George Bailey: That's a lie! Harry Bailey went to war - he got the Congressional Medal of Honor, he saved the lives of every man on that transport.
Clarence: Every man on that transport died! Harry wasn't there to save them, because you weren't there to save Harry.
Have you ever saved someone's life? If not, do you know anyone that has?
I stopped my ex-husband from choking on some food. I held my friend Rick's head and subdued him while he had an epileptic seizure on several ocassions.

5. George Bailey: What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That's a pretty good idea. I'll give you the moon, Mary.
Mary: I'll take it. Then what?
George Bailey: Well, then you can swallow it, and it'll all dissolve, see... and the moonbeams would shoot out of your fingers and your toes and the ends of your hair... am I talking too much?
What's the best line that someone has used on you in a romantic setting?
Probably something Bud said that does not need to be repeated here.

6. Man on Porch: Why don't you kiss her instead of talking her to death?
George Bailey: You want me to kiss her, huh?
Man on Porch: Ah, youth is wasted on the wrong people.
What is one thing that you would do differently if you were young again?
Apparently, I should have 1. Taken Spanish in school and 2. Paid more attention to that DJ at the Dialtone.

7. Mrs. Hatch: Who is down there with you, Mary?
Mary: It's George Bailey, mother.
Mrs. Hatch: George Bailey? What does he want?
Mary: I don't know!
[to George]
Mary: What do you want?
George Bailey: Me? Nothing! I just came in to get warm, is all.
Mary: [pause] He's making violent love to me, mother!
Did you ever tease your parents that you were doing something wrong when you were growing up?
I didn't need to tease them...I really was naughty.

8. Ma Bailey: [speaking of Mary Hatch] Why, she lights up like a firefly whenever you are around. Besides, Sam Wainright is off in New York, and you're here in Bedford Falls...
George Bailey: And all's fair in love and war, right?
Ma Bailey: [fixing his collar] Well, I don't know about war...
How do you feel about war?
I certainly don't think all is fair in it.

9. George Bailey: Just remember this, Mr. Potter: that this rabble you're talking about, they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath?

Do you think that you get paid enough for the work you and your family do?
Well, I've got a BIG problem with paying income taxes on what I earn. I'm being audited by the IRS now and I owe over $2400!!

10. Mary Hatch: [trapped naked in a bush] Shame on you! I'll tell your mother!
George Bailey: [thoughtfully] My mother's way up on the corner there.
Mary Hatch: I'll call the police.
George Bailey: They're way downtown. Anyway, they'd be on my side.
When was the last time that you dealt with the police?
I was pulled over for a spot check at night. I told the officer I was the designated ddriver. He pointed his flashlight at Bud, (who was quite Smirnoff'd), and said, :"Okay well, this seems to be okay...you're free to go".

Doggie Pics for the Holidays

I normally hate country music, but it works with this collage of dog holiday photos...enjoy!

1. How's it gonna be in 2011 for you?
I hope things go smoother. I just got audited by the IRS and owe over $2K! AAAARRRGH! Not a great ending to this year.

2. What is your idea of a perfect romantic evening?
Any time spent with Bud.

3. What strategy would you implement to deal with drug abuse in today's world?
Tell doctors to lighten up on prescriptions.

4. What thing about your family are you least proud of?
The history, the disfunction, the characters...let me count the ways, but the racism on my father's side beats all of my family shame.

5. What part of the holidays are you really looking forward to?
The journey through them.

6. Who is the last person you high-fived? Why?
A co-worker. Got the computer's back online.

7. Have you ever made out at a drive-in?
Of course. Who hasn't?!

8. If you had only enough energy left in you for one last smile, who would you give it to?
Bud.

9. Tell us about that time when you were the “life of the party”.
Kinda embarassing now, but in 1977 on New Year's Eve at a crowded disco called RHANNA PIPPINS in Groton, CT, I went around the room and kissed EVERY man in the club at midnight. There must have been 500 people there. The guys found it amusing and all cooperated at the time, if memory serves...I'm not proud of myself for that and certainly did not make points with the angry women who were there. I have no friends from that time period of my life, which shows how shallow and stupid I was back then.

ROCK n ROLL FRIDAYS meme: Paul Revere & The Raiders

Today we picked Paul Revere & the Raiders.

I loved this band so much back in the 1960s, I used to spend all my allowances on 16 Magazines so I could get "pix" of my "favs". I had a crush on Freddy Weller and Joe Correro Jr. in this band. I met Mark Lindsay, the lead singer, this past summer at one of his concerts. A sweet man in person.

1. INDIAN RESERVATION “They took the whole Indian Nation, Locked Us on this reservation And though I wear a shirt and tie, I’m still a red man deep inside”
Have you ever worn a uniform?
Yes, as a girl scout in the 1960s. In Junior High and High School Band, as an Army PFC, as an armed security guard, and as a manager trainee for Pride.
 2. JUST LIKE ME “It’s just like me to say to you, love me do and I’ll be true. And what I’d like, for you to say, is you’ll come home to me each day”
Who was the first person you wanted to come home to you each day?
Captain Kirk or Herb Alpert. (I was like 5 or 6 years old).

3. HUNGRY “Well I got this need I just can’t control and it’s driving me insane, because I’m hungry…”
What did you eat the last time you were really hungry?
A portugese fresh roll with butter on it.

4. LET ME “But I know my love is going somewhere, But I’m sure, it ain’t being got by you”
Ever admired someone for their talent?
All the time. I love watching someone who is good at what they do, be it glass blowing or making an omlette.

5. HIM OR ME WHAT’S IT GOING TO BE? “I can still recall when you told me I was all, everything you looked for in a man, but I know that it’s not true, I see the way he looks at you, and I think you’re gonna hang me up again”
Ever been dumped for another person?
Yes, and it hurt wicked bad. Skip dropped me for an actress in the school play named Carol.

6. KICKS “Girl, you thought you found the answer on that magic carpet ride last night But when you wake up in the mornin' the world still gets you uptight”
Ever fall for a scam?
I am too trusting. I believe people in an optimistic mindset. I get burned frequently.

7. LOUIE GO HOME “Well hah I can still hear my baby moan, Louie go back home, I’d better go home…”
What is your fondest memory of being called home?
My mother bellowing out "Kaaaa-thaaaayy!" across what seemed like 4 street blocks for me to come home for dinner time when I was playing with my neighbor friends.

8. ACTION “Dance, dance, dance, let your backbone flip…let’s go to the place on the Sunset Strip!”
How do you get your backbone to flip?
I recently danced at an Indian party to ethnic Indian music. I was imitating the jestures and movements of those around me...I'm sure my backbone flipped at some point...I felt like I was a hundred years old the next morning!

9. DON’T TAKE IT SO HARD “And you shouldn’t take it so hard, no you, shouldn’t take it so hard…”
What have you taken too hard recently?
I overheard a co-worker diss me behind my back this week and it upset me to tears.

10. CINDERELLA SUNSHINE “Where do you go Cinderella Sunshine?”
What is your least favorite fairy tale?
Anything Disney made a movie out of. Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, or anything where the woman is beautiful and has no skillsets and only lives happily ever after with some man or 7 dwarves she can cook and clean for. Uggh. Have I mentioned how I hate Barbie???

11. TOO MUCH TALK “Too much talk and not enough action do you know anybody getting satisfaction. Everybody wonder’s bout the crowd reaction and the world gets better by a very small fraction”
Do you read tabloids? Which ones and why?
I glance at the covers in line at the grocers, but I never buy any. I DO buy those "Women's World- All You- Real Simple- In Style- Good Housekeeping, etc. almost bi-weekly for a girly mag fix however. I did open one rag up to see "Kate's Wedding Dress" only to find it was not the actual dress, but the proposed dress Diana's designer sent to Kate for approval. Nothing is in stone.

12. TIME AFTER TIME “But ya’all have emptied my mind time after time”…
What was the last boring speech or lecture you listened to?
An online course in financial management. Uugh.

13. I HAD A DREAM “I had myself a dream last night the same one. Havin it most every night now, since you’ve been gone…”
Ever have the same dream more than once? What was it about?
The dinosaur searching for food and I'm in the path and there are structures and yards all around, but no hiding places. I have this one often. I'm sure it is a symptom of some neurotic issue I'm having.

Have ever felt that you’ve been in love with someone constantly over a long period of time?
Not until recently, unless you count dogs.

2. “I am an optimistic lady.”
How optimistic are you?
Too...I trust too easily and think the best until proven otherwise. I get disappointed a lot.

3. “I don't think today's younger audience... would even know what 1920s musicals were like.”
Do you have any knowledge of 1920 films or musicals? If yes, any favorites?
I only know those corny musicals from the 1940s and 50s...like Carousel and Oklahoma. Modern ones like Cats and All That Jazz. I don't care for musicals....can't stand that Liza-Judy vibratto in the voices.

4. “I hate the word wholesome.”
Play word association. I say “wholesome” and you say:
Boring.

5. “I have always wished I could learn to be a potter. I love collecting ceramics; it would be so fulfilling to create something lovely.”
What have you always wished that you could be?
Drummer in a rock n roll band. I still do!

6. “Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th.”
Tell us about something that you had to persevere through.
Moving and jobs...

7. “Some people regard discipline as a chore. For me, it is a kind of order that sets me free to fly.”
How do you define your self discipline?
I'm good except for shopping and eating.

8. “Sometimes opportunities float right past your nose. Work hard, apply yourself, and be ready. When an opportunity comes you can grab it.”
Have you ever missed a golden opportunity?
I should have invested in the home computer industry back in the 1980s.

9. “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and... SNAP! The job's a game!”
Have you ever had that perfect job that was always entertaining?
Bits and pieces of different jobs were fun. No one job was fun and perfect, but I had the most fun when I was a printer for a London one hour photo shop.

10. “Sometimes I'm so sweet even I can't stand it.”
Has anyone ever considered you as sweet?
Yep. I fool older people all the time.
