SAMS LAST STAND SATURDAY 9 MEME 2011

Sam's Last Stand: 2011

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday.

Saturday 9: Sam's Last Stand: 2011
1. Over all, how do you feel about what happened in your life in 2011?
On the bad side, my father died, I sold a house, I had a falling out with someone very special, I moved, I had a health scare and I gained a dress size in weight...on the good side,  I got a new job, I bought a new car, I got engaged and I bought a house...a mixed bag of emotions and situations...

2. Do you do New Year's resolutions? If so, what are they this year?
LOSE WEIGHT, MAKE A NEW MARRIAGE WORK...

3. In the past 24 hours, I have reconnected with 3 old friends that I've not spoken to in years. If you could reconnect with someone from your past who would it be, and why?
My best friend in school...she was very close, but we took different paths after high school and never kept in touch...
4. Do you have anything that you would have not done or done differently in 2011 as you look back?
A falling out I had with someone special was all about my handling grief poorly. I'd like to replay that time and fix it.

5. Going back to my ex-friends that I reconnected with, one of them ended over a boyfriend. She called to apologize. Do you have someone that you fell out with you and wonder how they are?
No

6. If you had a chance to reconnect with an ex (say for coffee), who would it be, and why?
I've closed all those chapters. There is no one I need to see for any reason...especially for coffee...

7. One resolution is about weight-loss. Have you ever struggled with your diet?
And how...

8. What do you think was the top news story of 2011?
Devastation from extreme weather. It affected me directly and ruined a lot of lives...some forever.

9. What are your plans for (New Year's Eve) tonight?
Spending it with my baby and some champagne...
Happy New Year!!!

FRIDAY MEME WTF

Friday, September 16, 2011   FRIDAY MEME

Googling guinea pig clothing as the toys take over

1) On Twitter, I saw someone say they Googled "Google" the other day. That sounds like a really stupid Google search to me. What was the last thing you Googled?
Extreme Home Makeover...because they are building a house near my town this week.

2) What is something you should never say to a woman on her birthday?
"I hope I look as good as you when I get that old"  (I actually said that to my aunt).

3) While walking through PetSmart this week, I noticed clothing for guinea pigs. What is the most ridiculous thing you've seen recently in a store?
Holiday greetings sayings in poor English, scrawled onto Christmas Tree Shop decorations made by children in 3rd world countries.

4) One of the Food Network's popular shows is titled "Chopped." Chefs have to create meals from a basket of mystery items. If you were a contestant and got a basket with chicken breasts, Fruit Loops cereal, cheddar cheese, and vodka, what type of dish would you try to create?
I'd eat the fruit loops and drink the vodka, then order pizza.

5) If your favorite pair of shoes suddenly could talk, would you still wear them?
Yes....well they actually do talk. All my shoes speak to me.

6) The National Toy Hall of Fame has announced its finalists for induction this year (Dollhouse, Dungeons & Dragons, Hot Wheels, Jenga, Pogo Stick, Puppet, R/C Vehicles, Rubik’s Cube, Simon, Star Wars Action Figures, Transformers, and Twister). Only two will make it into the hall of fame. Which two would you induct?
The Pogo Stick and the Hot Wheels. Great cars for playing when I was a kid. I was a pogo stick champ in the neighborhood...could hop with no hands and one foot. Quite proud of that. lol

7) Speaking of toys, today (Sept. 16) is National Play Doh Day. Is there any toy from when you were a kid that you miss getting to play with?
My blocks and Lego.

8) Last toy question, I promise... Due to the federal government’s ban on the incandescent light bulb, Hasbro's Easy Bake Oven had to be remodeled. Did you ever eat food cooked in an Easy Bake Oven?
I loved those little round cakes and tacky frosting packets. I only made cakes in my oven. It fascinated me how it cooked. I still love baking.

WTF MEME: Thursday Questions

Dipping your company gift in the fair's chocolate fountain  WTF MEME Questions:

1) I recently received a gift from my employer for making it through five years of employment. It was a stupid pin and keychain. What would you want your employer to give you for a five-year gift?
The honor of keeping my job.

2) The fall season of television is starting. What show are you excited to have return or what new show are you excited to make its first premiere?
Secret Circle looks interesting, though I suspect it will be another badly researched exploitation of Wicca folks.

3) One of my favorite restaurants recently added a chocolate fountain. What would be your favorite thing to dip into the chocolate?
Some terrific cookie...or Bud.

4) I've bought more things on eBay in the last couple months than ever before. What is the last thing you bought over the internet?
I got a SkinIt cover for my new phone. It's an indian design film you tape onto your phone to look designer...really cool.

5) If you come across a homeless person on a street, do you give him or her money?
Yes, always. There is a thin line between that person and me. I always feel people deserve to be validated. Nothing worse than being invisible, ignored...besides, begging for money is much harder work than my job.

6) If you knew you were about to die and had the opportunity to write your own obituary, what is something you'd want to make sure is included?
I bagged The Hunter.

7) State fair season is in full swing across the U.S. What is your favorite thing to do at a fair?
Anticipate going is sometimes better than going. I love looking at everything. It's a change of season thing too...especially The Big E...which is the true end of summer start of fall.

8) By some weird twist of fate, you wake up as another person one morning and must carry on with his or her life. What do you miss most about the person you were before?
Bagging the Hunter...and my disco past.

WTF MEME: Facebook and other things....

Wednesday, September 7, 2011 WTF MEME
Dogs on surf boards join a Facebook status chain

1) Last week women on Facebook started another one of those supposed "raise breast cancer awareness" status chains which end up just confusing men. This one had me saying "I'm 14 weeks and craving Skittles." Instantly people started asking me if I was pregnant. This has angered some people (including a blogger who posted a rant about it because she says that "pretending you're pregnant isn't cute"). What do you think of status chains like this?
I put them in the same category as the stoopid games where people collect items for their virtual farms.  FB has many positive attributes and I love it. I ignore the chain letter type of posts. I have a few friends who do that kind of thing. I like them anyway.

2) Do you think people should be able to buy music and share it with everyone he or she wants or should everyone have to purchase the songs themselves?
Music is universal love. Sharing it should never be illegal.

3) How often do you (or your significant other) vacuum your house?
I have a spider problem, so vacuum almost daily. Bud does not vacuum his place...he has a maid.

4) Monday was National Cheese Pizza Day. What toppings do you like on your pizza?
Sorry I missed it. I like green pepper, hamburger and extra cheese. I love a nice crust too.

5) The Thought Catalog has posted a list of great songs to cry to. What is a song that can easily bring you to tears?
That dammm xmas song about the kid buying shoes for his dying mother.

6) Beanie babies were a big craze in the 1990s. What is a toy that you collect or used to collect?
I had a fabulous collection of marble and I also loved plastic dinosaurs....they used to sell a bunch of them in a big plastic bag.

7) Buddy, a 14-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, will be the first animal inducted into the Surf Dog Hall of Fame. Do you enjoy seeing animals do crazy stunts?
I get suspicious when a dog does an unusual trick. I see a semi-abusive owner making that dog do something that a dog would never do in the natural world. That goes for skateboarding bulldogs too.

8) September is Fall Hat Month. Do you like to wear hats? If so, what type of hats are your favorites?
I love hats. I also like wigs...guess they are like hats in a way. I wear them in every season except Spring.

SUNDAY STEALING meme: DONE LATE

Sunday, September 4, 2011The 20 Questions of Doom Meme

Sunday Stealing: The 20 Questions of Doom Meme

1. Do you believe in Heaven?
Not in the christian concept of heaven. I believe there is "holding ground" place right after death where our souls hang out. The new agers refer to this as The Summerland. Kind of a sanctuary bridge between mortal life on earth and the next level of "being". Spiritually, I believe in an afterlife, reincarnation. Heaven is within our own life, not a place we go to later.

2. Have you ever come close to dying?
I've always thought just before surgery that I might not wake up. I had a car crash in the 1970s that I saw in slow motion and I fell down the stairs at home once and thought that was "it", but nothing serious and I've always awakened after surgery with a bright new optimistic view.

3. What jewelery do you wear 24/7?
I used to wear a pentacle on a silver chain and have earrings on every day and a watch. I would probably wear a wedding ring 24/7 but I'm not a fan of jewelry to the degree I would wear it all the time, especially at night.

4. Would you ever consider having plastic surgery?
I am intrigued by the "Life Lift" and plan to do it for my 60th birthday.

5. What do you wear to bed?
Depends on whom I am with. If alone, I shoot for comfort. If with a man, I attempt a sexy functional frock.

6. Have you ever done anything illegal?
I won't admit to anything recent. In high school, some friends and I stole some street wood horse blocks with blinking lights at a construction area and blocked off a major road in another part of town.

7. Who was the last person that you touched?
A co-worker's shoulder who is going through a rough time now. Her step daughter is in a coma. Oh..."TOUCH"? ... ummm...that would be Bud.

8. Where did you eat last?
Had my coffee and oatmeal on the sofa.

9. Besides your own blog, are there any that you routinely read but never comment on?
I comment once in awhile. I read Bud's but rarely comment on it.

10. Ever been involved with the police?
I dated 2 of them...oh...ummm you mean like getting a speeding ticket? Ya...

11. Do you talk in your sleep?
I mumble and groan.

12. Now a celebrity fantasy. Who would you take on a ménage à trois for a dirty weekend?
Kiefer Sutherland and/or Brendan Fraser

13. Do you feel that you’ve had a truly successful life?
In many ways, yes, but I have not finished my bucket list yet.

14. Where do you wish you were?
In late winter/early spring...England. In autumn...right here in New England.

15. Have you ever ridden in an ambulance?
Yes, most recently with a friend who had a gran mal seizure (epiliepsy) and I sat in front with the driver, terrified of the fast driving. I asked the driver to slow down. I'd also been a passenger-patient once when I had a panic attack and my mother thought I was having a heart attack and called 911.

16. Is there any type of dancing that you love to do?
Disco will always have my heart, but I enjoyed the early 80s moves too.

17. Last gift you received?
Bud bought me some booze.

18. Last sport you played?
I think that came after Bud bought me some booze...

19. Last place you went on holiday?
On holiday? What country IS this? Ummm...well vacation? Gee, I think it was last January with Bud at his daughter's house in Jersey.

20. Current Song?
That varies hourly. I get a kick out of that Katy Perry thing "Friday Night"...

In the 1970s....still seems like yesterday, but my wage was $2.01 per hour and I was happy to get it.

Drummer in a rock band.

Someone who loves what they are doing.

8. How do you usually celebrate Labor Day (or whatever holiday your location may have that is devoted to workers)?

Sunday, August 28, 2011

Welcome to Monday Mayhem. Today Harriet is focusing on crummy weather.

1. What city, in your opinion, has the crummiest weather?
Any hot tropical place. I absolutely hate hot humid weather.

 2. What kind of weather is the crummiest weather that your current home experiences?
Hot humid summers...

 4. What is the crummiest weather event that you have personally ever experienced?
A downpour of rain in Florida that caused a flash flood when I was driving. I was terrified as the water table rose above the rim of the car floor and my car was stalled and I was trapped for over an hour unable to drive away and too scared to step into the rushing water. We did not have cell phones then, so I had to call out for help from the car window.

I'll take the snow.

 6. What kind of weather keeps you indoors?

Severe...

 10. What's your weather like today?
Hurricane Irene. It missed my part of the state outside of strong wind and a little rain, but really affected other parts and over 11 people died from storm issues today up the eastern US coastline. That is truly sad and tragic. I'm so sorry for them and their families and friends and for the people who have to deal with the terrible flooding and power outages.

1) Today, whose mouth needs to be covered with duct tape?

One of my other blogs...

SUNDAY STEALING MEME: FOR CLYDE

Sunday Stealing: The 31 Meme, Part Two: In Memory to Clyde

16. What's the longest shift that you worked at a job?
I worked a lot of double shifts when I was a slot attendant at FOXWOODS CASINO in CT. What a miserable job...made worse by the fact that casino workers are not allowed to gamble in  the casino. I love playing slots and it killed me to see other people playing machines I would enjoy myself. I hated the vibe in there, the ringing, the stress, the white-green faces of losing people, and the nastiness of the public.

17. What was the last concert that you attended?
SO LONG DAVEY! was the last band I saw play live. The guitar guy and songwriter is Bud's youngest son, James and the band was smokin hot! Here's a link to one of their cool songs:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9eA3XU394M
A couple weeks prior to them, I attended The HAPPY TOGETHER TOUR concert which was a 1960s music fan's dream! The Buckinghams, Grassroots, Association, Turtles and Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere & Raiders. I howled along to every song. The band's all still retained talent, tho most are now in their 60s and there were some mild vocals issues...great to see them all.

18. What the last DVD (or Blu Ray, of course) movie that you watched?
Bud and I watched CASABLANCA last night...for me it was the first (and last) time. It's Bud's favorite movie.

19. How did you like the film?
I was restless and bored and not attracted to Humphrey Bogart and not interested in the politics of it. Glad I got that over with. Nice to share time with Bud anyway.

20. What comedian do you love?
I love many, from all eras of comedy. Mr. Black reigns now as a personal fav.

21. Do you ever sleep in the nude?
HAHAHAHA

22. Have you ever had a long distance relationship?
Somewhat of one now...

23. What do you think of astrology?
I'm confused about this new sign they discovered and how it changed everyone's birthsign date. I used to believe in the characteristics of each sign and saw them in any person who told me their sign. I am a true Pisces. Bud  is definitely a Scorpio.

24. What's you're favorite lyric quote from a song?
"All you know is all there is"  from an old DEVO song. There are so many good lines from songs...a crime to narrow it down to only a fav one.

25. Tell us something random about yourself.
I changed my first and last names in real life to fictional character names and had to go to probate court and paid $160 to do it..Kathryn is for Kathryn Janeway of Star Trek and Collins is for the Dark Shadows family.

26. Have ever attended a theme party? If yes, do tell.
I was a bartender at a trendy Venice Beach California restaurant-bar that had a "tranny" night and I dressed as a man and won first place. I had to dance with the male winner dressed as a woman to the whole room clapping time to nu wave music. It was the 1980s, dude, I am SO SHURE.

27. What is your favorite thing about winter?
Wearing cover up clothes and stylish boots. Good hearty meals and holiday cookies.

28. What was the name of your first pet?
Joe the goldfish. Freddy joined him...named for two of the members of Paul Revere & the Raiders. To this day I hate seafood and that low tide smell.

29. What have you done so far this weekend?
Umm...well I was with Bud last night. Did some shopping and ordered a new phone. Cleaned and hung some art on the walls. Watched part of my 1260 episode set of DARK SHADOWS...and the day is still young!

30. Has your humor ever been called “sick”?
Ohhhh yaaaa....but not so much lately. I'm all growed up and respectable now.

31. If you could have one thing, what would it be?
Contentment.

SATURDAY 9 MEME: My Best Friend's Girl

Saturday 9: My Best Friend's Girl

1. Have you and a friend ever have an argument because you were attracted to the same person?
My friends and I have totally different taste in men, so this never came up. I have had issues when my friend didn't like HIS friend on a double date-meeting and didn't want to end my date because she hated hers.

2. Who never returns your phone calls?
I work as an accounts payable/receivable bookkeeper and when I call vendors to inquire about payment, they rarely call back.

3. What was your favorite childhood toy?
A big ole stuffed dalmation named Snoopy. I loved the life out of that dawg and it now resides on my diningroom floor awaiting it's final photo shoot before I send it to toy heaven.

4. Who is the last person you greeted at your door?
Bud, but he was not at the door. He called me on my cell phone all the way from my porch swing to come out and get him.

5. Would you change anything about your life right now?
Umm..what category? Relationship....no, I have Bud back. Physically...weight namely muffin top needs to dismiss itself from my person, work-financially...need to learn more about my duties so I make less errors.

6. Who is the easiest person for you to talk to?
Myself.

7. If you could live in any ancient city during the height of the quality of its society and culture, which one would you choose?
I adored Greek Mythology and Egyptian stories...a toss mup between the two. In school, I was fascinated by the Aztec Mayan culture, but I'd never want to live with them. Yikes.
8. What is the most exciting event you’ve ever witnessed?
Not to be a bummer, but my mother's death was incredible to witness happening.

9. What do you consider the ideal age to have a first child?
For me...never will be a good age. For others...babies come when they need to be born. I believe physically, that women should breed before 34 or their stale eggs will risk birthing a higher percentage of autistic-malformed-uber-sensitive type of offspring.

TATTOOING BODIES AND PLAYING IN THE SAND

THIS IS A MEME CALLED WTF (WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY)...

1) My coworker who sits at the next desk often texts me during work to communicate with me without anyone else knowing what she's saying. Do you ever text someone who is in the same room as you?
Nah...texting is not that big a part of my life.

2) How do you feel about people naming their pets with people names (like Maddox, Luke, and Sarah) instead of more pet-type names (like Paws, Spot, Boots, etc.)?
As long as they love their pets, I don't care.

3) Do you have a "junk" drawer in your home? What types of items are stuffed in there? (Feel free to share a photo of the contents if you want.)
I have several junk drawers...all full of tools, memorabillia, nails, tape, matches...and junk boxes of paper trail from myself and my family.

4) Would you ever buy a neon pink car?
I just bought a light seafoam green metallic car which I love dearly. Never would own a pink car. Ick. Mary Kay on drugs?

Taxxachusetts Welcomes You.

6) What's the most exciting thing about your life right now?
Bud is back in my life.

7) Today (Aug. 11) is “National Play in the Sand Day.” If you were at a beach right now building a sandcastle, what would it look like?
I would not be at the beach. I hate beaches and I don't play in the sand. I'd rather be making mp4's out of old CDs.

8) If a company offered to pay you $100,000 to get an advertisement for its product tattooed on your body, would you do it?
Well, maybe "BUD", lol.

9) You're a kid again at a party with a pinata. What type of candy do you hope pops out of the pinata after you hit it?

10) If someone wanted to win your heart, what would he/she need to do?
He already has.

Monday Mayhem- the going on vacation meme

SUNDAY, AUGUST 7, 2011

Welcome again to Monday Mayhem.

Today we are going to roast going on vacation.

Have fun!

1. If you were to go on a vacation next week, where would you go to?
England. I’d bring Bud to tour the pubs with. It’s beautiful there in summer.

2. What was your favorite childhood vacation memory?
They were always the same…down 95 to Florida to visit my grandmother in St Pete/Tampa area. I always enjoyed it when the motel had a pool and a swingset. I loved Morrisons Cafeterias…a chain of buffet style restaurants. It was the first time I could pick out exactly what I wanted to eat.

3. Would you or have you ever been on a vacation without your significant other?
I could, but I’d prefer him to be with me.

4. What is your worst vacation memory?
When it was late and my parents and I were exhausted and we were trying to find a cheap motel in North Carolina. I was about 12. My father would not stay in a motel owned by anyone but a white person, so we suffered for an hour in the search and wound up in a flea infested dive and I remember thinking what a couple of jerks I was stuck with for the week.

5. Who would you love to take on vacation with you and where would you go?
Bud. ... and now that I’m thinking about England…probably London.

6. What is the biggest waste of money vacation you have ever heard of?
A sporting event such as the super bowl, or anywhere just to sit on a beach. I cannot think of anything more time wasting then laying out in the sun.

7. Who really needs a vacation?
We all do!

8. Have you ever done something on a vacation that would hope nobody would ever hear about?
Not yet, but I’ll work on it!

CURIOUS AS A CAT MEME WEEK 283

Week Number 283

1) Create a new human culture and describe it as thoroughly as possible. Be sure to describe appearance, values, beliefs, etc.
I’m thinking of the episode of Twilight Zone where those pig people thought Ellie Mae and that handsome guy were disgustingly ugly and tried surgery to change their faces. When it failed, they put them into a colony to live together, but apart from the normal people. I’d do this with DJs instead of pretty people and have them all talk about blue vinyl and B sides in their own little colony. There would be music 24/7 and heated debates over genre preferences. I’d be in that colony. So would Bud.

2) Which animal makes the best pets? Defend why this is clearly the greatest option.
Dawgs are the best. I cannot imagine a different pet. Just dawgs.

3) What was the last thing you broke that you’re really upset about?
Someone’s heart.

4) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

It reminds me of Nottingham England when I visited there in ’86. There was a medieval band playing outside and I sat in the grass drinking woodpecker hard cider enjoying the moment, the band, the country. I love England so much. After living there 3 years, I still get a tear in my eye whenever I see films or news footage with English towns in it. I'm homesick, but not to live there again...just visit.

Taking some time off...

Sorry folks...

I need to get away from blogging for awhile to get things in order.
Not sure about continuing the Rock n Roll Friday meme...too much going on in my life to be able to keep up with it.

Hope everyone is doing well. Have a great spring and summer.

Take care,
Kathy A

Monday Mayhem: Inspirations

Woohoo! Another Monday Mayhem and today we are all about inspirations.
Answer the three questions and/or post your inspirational video.
Have fun!

Q1. What inspires your more- 3 loads of laundry that needs to be put away or a TV preacher?
I kinda like Joel Osteen. I am not a christian or someone who even attends church, but I like his motivational speeches.

Q2. What do inflated gas prices inspire you to do?
I have to do the same amount of driving regardless of the gas price. It just makes me have less to spend on shoes.

Q3. What has inspired you over the past week?
My own free spirit.

No video this week, sorry.

SUNDAY STEALING meme: Friggin Long One

2. Tell us about your favorite tee-shirt. Extra points if you show a pic. (We know. What can you do with freakin' extra points?)
My US FESTIVAL tee shirt is my fav, tho I rarely wear it. It commemorates the 1983 3 day concert event put on by Apple computers to introduce home computers…I remember wondering what anyone would ever do with a computer at their house! The concerts were top nu wave bands and metal bands of the 80s, including The Clash and David Bowie. I’ll never forget it. Woodstock for the 80s.

All the time!

The mouse.

That damm dinosaur dream….I have it about once a month. Scares the bejesus outta me.

8. Did you or might you meet anybody new today?

Lately yes…post funeral fallout I guess.

Saturday 9 MEME: Nobody Knows You When You're Down & Out

Saturday 9: Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out
1. What is the most “down and out” that you've ever been?
When I lived in London, England in the late 1980's, I only got paid once a month, so that 4th week was lean...I remember checking phone boxes for coins so I could buy milk for tea.

2. Do you believe there is only one "right" religion?
I like open-minded religions. The ones that propose to be the ONLY way to everlasting life can be annoying.

3. If you could get back in touch with one person you've lost touch with, who would it be and why?
I was curious how my bestest friend from high school was doing. She went to Katherine Gibbs School of Business and never wrote or called me or our other good friends again. It's been 35 years, but it stings.

4. Has anyone ever held the key to your heart, but did not know it?
A cop in CT did once. He didn't want it. Another heartache for the meter.

5. If your lover cheated on you and profusely apologized, might you accept them back into your life?
Nah. Not worth the trouble to keep a bad one.

6. Have you ever gone to work/school drunk or stoned? If yes, do tell.
I had a canteen of tequila sunrise just before 6th period as a senior in HS and went to power shop class with the hiccups. I don't drink at work. When I bartended in the 1980s, I had a kahlua coffee at the start of every shift.

7. Who is your favorite relative?
I get a kick out of my brother, Bob who lives in Austrailia. He has a wicked sense of humor and a bit of criminal element, like me. ;-)

8. What annoys you most?
People being rude and road rage.

9. Tell us of one thing you used to do that you are not proud of.
I used to tease/cut up other kids at my high school. I guess nowadays that would be known as bullying.

Rock n Roll Friday's MEME: THREE DOG NIGHT

Hi I'm DJ KathyA! I'm back from the funeral mode...
Welcome to Rock 'n Roll Fridays. We are like other memes in that we will ask you thirteen questions each and every Friday. But our little "twist" is that each week we will pick a singer, band, era or category and pick thirteen of their songs. Each of our questions will be based on the lyrics. Today we picked Three Dog Night.

1. Black and White: “The world is black The world is white
It turns by day and then by night The child is black The child is white
Together they grow to see the light To see the light”
What are your favorite black and white items?
Photos of the past...

2. Joy To The World: “If I were the King of the world, Tell you what I'd do, I'd throw away the cars and the bars and the wars
And make sweet love to you”
What would YOU do if you were King of the World?
Resign, why deal with THAT misery and stress?

3. Easy To Be Hard: “How can people have no feelings, How can they ignore their friends Easy to be proud, easy to say no”
Have you ever ignored a friend?
Yes and recently, but I've been a good friend to many other people over the years and I cannot kick myself over screwing up one.

4. Old Fashioned Love Song: “Just an old-fashioned love song, One I'm sure they wrote for you and me, Just an old-fashioned love song, Comin' down in 3-part harmony”
What song do you think was written about you?
Depends on what part of my life I'm thinking of. Right now, I'm so NOT me, nothing comes to mind. My Way comes to mind...we used it in the funeral slide show of my father's photos...if the shoe fits...

5. Out In The Country: “Before the breathin' air is gone, Before the sun is just a bright spot in the nighttime, Out where the rivers like to run, I stand alone and take back somethin' worth rememberin'”
When was the last time you took back something worth rememberin?
When I saw a line up of about 50 SubVets salute in their uniforms at my father's funeral last weekend.

6. Family of Man: “Memories replacing the loves that we've lost, Burning our bridges as soon as they're crossed, Factories built where the rivers ran, And time running out for the family of man”
Since the nuclear plant tragedy in Japan, what alternate power source would you prefer?
I've always thought solar and wind were the way to go. Those windmills are kind of sci fi-futuristic looking.

7. Shambala: “Everyone is helpful, everyone is kind, On the road to Shambala, Everyone is lucky, everyone is so kind, On the road to Shambala”
Where have you been where everyone is overly friendly?
Have you been inside a Coldwater Creek lately? It's fake, but mighty friendly in there. Also, any shoe store has a staff that will kiss your feet.

8. Eli’s Comin: “Well you better hide your heart, your loving heart
Eli's a-comin' and the cards say... a broken heart”
What good advice did you ignore and then later regret?
My mother tried to warn me about marrying my now ex husband...she was SO right.

9. One: “It's just no good anymore since she went away, Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday”
Can you make up a rhyme?
Just in time.

10. Never Been To Spain: “Well I never been to heaven, But I been to Oklahoma Well they tell me I was born there, But I really don't remember”
What is your earliest memory as a child/baby?
Riding in the stroller. I loved riding in moving vehicles. I still enjoy car rides.

11. Mama Told Me Not To Come: “Just open the window brother, and let me catch my breath”
Where was the last really stinky place you were in?
My father's bedroom when we were going though his effects just after his death.

12. One Man Band: “Here I am, take my hand, I'm your man, Baby, let me be your one man band”
Do you play an instrument?
Trumpet, Djembe Drum, Tin Flute...and I sing really well alone in the car.

13. Liar: “You've taken my life, so take my soul, That's what you said and I believed it all I want to be with you as long, As you want me to, I won't move away Ain't that what you said?”
When was the last time you were lied to?
My sister said she would help with setting up for the funeral service. We had bins of memory table stuff...she brought food and never came ov er once to help with the memory tables. I had to do it alone. Bud tried to help, but this was not his responsibility.

Life on Hold

Just a note to let you know I'm still around, however have been more than busy getting the funeral arrangements done, playing Executrix of my father's estate, and cleaning out the junk in his house.
I compiled this slide show with faces of his life...kind of a tribute to a most unusual man.

I'll be back to normal soon, I hope. :-)

A port-o-potty, Computer and charger, snacks to eat and bourbon or wine.

In England, I had just taken several rolls of film helping a friend photograph her fashion line, so she took me out to dinner and then to a hotel bar for a drink. The barkeep asked us to leave. He thought we were prostitutes. In England they get away with crap like that. I've never gotten over it.

ROCK N ROLL FRIDAY meme: John Lennon

Bud Hosts: John Lennon
Hi! I'm Bud Weiser, sitting in for my girlfriend DJ Kathy A today. Welcome to Rock 'n Roll Fridays. We are like other memes in that we will ask you thirteen questions each and every Friday. But our little "twist" is that each week we will pick a singer, band, era or category and pick thirteen of their songs. Each of our questions will be based on the lyrics.
Today we picked John Lennon.

1. Gimme Some Truth “I'm sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, shortsighted, narrow-minded hypocrites
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth"
What is one undeniable truth in your life?
Death and Taxes...

2. Instant Karma “Why in the world are we here? Surely not to live in pain and fear Why on Earth are you there
When you're everywhere Gonna get your share"
Why in the world do you think you are here?
To save the world, or at least entertain folks.

3. Out of the Blue “Out the blue you came to me
And blew away life's misery”
Has anyone ever came out of the blue for you?
A few of my friends contacted me on facebook.

4. Jealous Guy “I didn't mean to hurt you I'm sorry that I made you cry
Oh no, I didn't want to hurt you I'm just a jealous guy”
Tell us about a time when you were jealous.
I loved the styling makeovers they did on the AI contestants. I wish I had a make up artist make me over.

5. Mind Games “We're playing those mind games together
Pushing the barriers planting seeds Playing the mind guerrilla
Chanting the Mantra peace on earth”
When was the last time someone played mind games with you?
My siblings and I are going thru my fathers things and making plans for the funeral, which is turning into a 3 ring circus. There are mind games all around right now...

6. Imagine “Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can, No need for greed or hunger a brotherhood of man, Imagine all the people Sharing for the world”
What's your favorite possession?
Bud.

7. Working Class Hero “They hurt you at home and they hit you at school They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so crazy you can't follow their rules A working class hero is something to be A working class hero is something to be”
How did you get along in high school?
I was sort of popular in my Junior and Senior years, but only with a certain crowd of band kids and glee people.

8. I'm Stepping Out “Gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta get out
I'm stepping out, babe Just a while Ain't been out for days”
When was the last time you went out on the town? What did you do?
Re-created my first meeting with Bud at Max's for a nice dinner and then sitting at the same outdoor table (brrr!) we talked at when we met. I wore my new red shoes. :-)

9. Steel and Glass “Well, your mouthpiece squawks as he spreads your lies But you can't pull strings if your hands are tied, hey, hey”
Who was the last person who spread lies about you?
Ironically, it was my father...I was going thru his notes and found an open letter to one of his elderly friends that he never sent and he white-lied about his children in it. I was startled.

10. God “God is a concept By which we measure Our pain”
How do you conceive “god”?
Immaculate conception?

11. I'm Losing You “Here in some stranger's room,
Late in the afternoon, What am I doing here at all?”
Have you ever cheated on a lover or been cheated on?
No, I tend to leave them first, then find another partner.

12. Whatever Gets You Through the Night “Whatever gets you through your life 'salright, 'salright Do it wrong or do it right 'salright, 'salright
Don't need a watch to waste your time oh no, oh no”
What gets you through the night?
Lately, Xanax. I never take drugs, but the funeral planning and handling the contents of an 89 year old house keeps me wide awake.

13. Give Peace a Chance “Everybody's talkin' 'bout ministers, sinisters
Banisters and canisters, bishops and fishops Rabbis and pop eyes, bye bye, bye byes”
What's everyone talking about where you live?
The tragedy of Japan and frustration with dealing with a snowstorm even on March 24th.

My Father's Passing...

I got the news today that they found my father. He apparently died in his sleep this weekend. He would have been 90 years old on March 28th.

It is a bit of an emotional roller coaster for me right now, so I'm taking a short break from memes and posting. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  DJ Kathy A

SUNDAY STEALING meme: Burnt Toast Meme Pt 2

Sunday Stealing: The Burnt Toast Meme, Part Two
17. Who would you like to show up at your door to say they love you?
If I don't say BUD here, I'm royally screwed.

18. Last furry thing you touched?
Some man part.

19. How many drugs have you done in the last three days?
None, unless we are counting alcohol...

20. Do you miss film or does digital work for you?
I miss the quality and control film used to give me with the proper camera equipment. I love digital manipulation and cropping photos.

21. Favorite age you have been so far?
19...when the drinking age was 18 and the whole world was ahead of me...and at my feet.

22. Your worst enemy?
Myself.

23. What is your current desktop picture?
Coffeebean...an MS background option.

24. What was the last thing you said that was funny?
Probably something to Bud about someone...not worthy of repeating.

25. If you had to choose between a million bucks or to be able to fly what would it be?
Oh crappe. I hate this kind of question. I need the cash right now...is this a "teach a man to fish" lesson? Okay, so I'll exploit my flying capability and sell tickets for people to come interview and watch me.
That will make me the million huh...

26. Who can't you say “no” to?
Myself.

27. The last song you bought or downloaded?
Bruno Mars ..."Grenade". It's currently over-playiong in my car for my ride into work.

28. What time of day were you born?
6:09 pm....just in time for dinner!

29. What’s your favorite number? Why?
7. Always have loved it. Nice balanced number for a party or 3 together for a jackpot. ;-)

30. Where did you live in 1987?
London, England.

31. Are you jealous of anyone?
Right now, thinner people.

32. Is anyone jealous of you?
Probably.

33. It's been almost a decade. Where were you when 9/11 happened?
I was an eBay dealer full time and was just coming down the stairs to find my then husband, John watching it on TV. I actually thought it was a "reality" movie starring Bruce Willis and was shocked to find it was real. I then saw the 2nd plane crash (live) and watched all day. The skies were eerily quiet from the air ban.

SATURDAY 9 meme: ST PATRICK'S DAY

Saturday 9: St. Patrick's Day

1. St. Patrick's Day is March 17th (Thursday). Do you celebrate and wear green? Drink Green Beer? Ignore it?
I always wear green or green and orange on St Patty's Day. I ignore the fact that it is a celebration of a saint who drove the witches and pagan religeons out of Ireland...it just pisses me off. I do not go out at night on St Pats' tho, as I worry about drunk drivers...but mostly because I've gotten into lots of trouble myself on this date in previous years.

2. If a leprechaun told you that you could have any amount of money from his pot of gold but it had to be a specified amount for a specified item, how much would you ask for and what would it be for?
$450,000 for a house that included 20 years of tax payments and insurance premiums. I'd be a happy girl.

3. One of the symbols of St. Patrick's Day is the leprechaun. Name a celebrity that you think would look good as a leprechaun. Name a celebrity that would look ridiculous as a leprechaun. Is there any one celebrity that would make a really scary leprechaun?
Will Ferrell made a great Elf...so I think a Leprechaun is in order. The rest of this question is silly.

4. For a prize of $1,000,000,000 you are challenged to make yourself a costume for a St. Patricks Day party. The ONLY rules are that you aren't allow to use clothing and it has to be green. Using anything other than clothing, describe your costume to us using ANYTHING else in the house.
Another silly question. I could dye my Wheatena cereal green and plaster it on, let it dry so it will stay put. Bud believes Wheatena is the material they built the pyramids with. I would then cash in the balance of the money for some fun.

5. What day of the week is your busiest? Tell us about your schedule.
Probably Monday. Weekends are laundry, housework, alcohol and Bud dates, tho not in that order.

6. No matter what's going on in your life, what always makes you smile?
Music.

7. Of all the clothes you own, what do you feel most comfortable wearing, and why?
My nightgowns. No pressure lines...

8. On what television show—either past or present—would you like to make a guest appearance, and what role would you play?
24...as one of Kiefer's love intersts that turns into a terrorist.

9. What else is on your mind? Go ahead and rant.
Will people just shut the F%# up about Charlie Sheen? I'm sick of hearing about him.
